How to Protect Your Samsung Secure Folder
Published on
In Android, Samsung phones are well known for their strong security â thanks to Knox and Secure Folder. Secure Folder lets you protect your private files, photos, and apps separately from your main space. Thatâs why remembering your password and not sharing it is so important to keep your data safe.
However, there is a way someone could reset your Secure Folder password. Here, Iâll show you how it can be done.
Important: This method only works if someone already knows your screen lock password or has access to your biometrics. Additionally, if your Samsung account is linked to your Gmail account, this process becomes easier, since most people use their Gmail account as their Samsung ID as well.
How someone can change your Secure Folder password?
Note: The method below is only for testing purposes. Do not misuse it to harm anyoneâs privacy. Here we are assuming that you donât know the Secure Folder password.
- Open Secure Folder. On the screen where it asks for biometrics (fingerprint or face), donât use biometrics.
- Instead, tap on Use PIN.
- Enter a wrong PIN/password intentionally.
- After 1â2 wrong attempts, you will see a Forgot PIN/Password option. Click on that and reset password. Again, it will ask for your biometrics, but you should click on Use Samsung account password.
- It will now ask for your Samsung account password. Instead of entering it, choose Verify with one-time email.
- It will ask you to send a verification email and then open your inbox. In most cases, it will open the default Gmail app when you tap send email and verify. Find the email there and tap on the Continue link.
- A browser window will open showing Email verified successfully.
- Press the back button until you return to the Secure Folder password reset page. (Do not press Home or Recent apps.)
- Now you are good to go. Here you can set a new Secure Folder password.
Alternatively, if you havenât used your Gmail account as your Samsung account and have used another provider like Outlook or something else, this process may not work directly. In this case, the person trying to reset your Secure Folder password would need to know your Samsung account password. Otherwise, they might try to change your Samsung account password first â if the email linked to your Samsung account is logged in on your device. Also, someone can find out your Samsung account email ID by going to Settings > Samsung Account > Profile Info.
How to protect your Secure Folder?
Here are some important steps to help prevent someone from changing your Secure Folder password:
- Keep your screen lock password private
Donât share your screen lock password with anyone you donât trust. If you are worried someone could access your biometrics while youâre sleeping, use the Lockdown mode option. This disables biometrics until you enter your screen lock PIN/password.
- Donât allow password reset with Samsung account
When you first set up your Secure Folder, Samsung asks whether you want to enable password reset with your Samsung account. If you turned it on, follow these steps to disable it:
- Go to Secure Folder.
- Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Secure Folder lock type.
- Enter your current Secure Folder password and turn off the option âReset with Samsung account.â
- A popup will appear: âIf this option is turned off, you can't reset your lock if you forget how to unlock Secure Folder.â Tap OK and go back.
After turning off this option, no one will be able to change your Secure Folder password. However, as the popup warns, you wonât be able to reset your password if you forget it.
Recommendation: Use a PIN with at least 6 digits or higher for added security. Also, you can set a rememberable password such as a line from your favorite song, a line of a poem, a favorite quote, etc.
Conclusion
Secure Folder is your own personal digital vault. It isolates your confidential files, pictures, and apps from the rest of your phone. But keep in mind, even the most secure locks can be overcome if someone has your screen lock, has access to your biometrics, or has control of your Samsung account.
By doing what this blog says â keeping your screen lock secure, turning off password reset via your Samsung account, setting a strong yet memorable PIN/password â you make it much more difficult for anyone to interfere with your Secure Folder.
In the end, security is not all about technology; security is about the behaviors you adopt. Keep your keys safe.
Thatâs all for now from my side.

Have a great security.
